Celebrating National Children’s Dental Health Month at Brooks Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics
February 24, 2025

February is a special month at Brooks Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, as we join dental professionals across the country in celebrating National Children’s Dental Health Month. This month-long national health observance brings together thousands of dedicated professionals, healthcare providers, and educators to promote the benefits of good oral health to children, their caregivers, teachers, and many others.
Why Focus on Children’s Dental Health?
Dental health is a crucial component of overall health, especially for children. Early childhood caries (tooth decay) remains the most common chronic disease in children—five times more common than asthma. It’s not just about cavities; poor dental health can adversely affect a child’s eating habits, speaking patterns, self-esteem, and overall quality of life. Our mission at Brooks Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics is to ensure that every child we see is on a path to a lifetime of good oral health.
What We’re Doing for Children’s Dental Health Month
- Educational Outreach: Throughout the month, we are visiting schools and community centers in the San Antonio area, including Brookside, Pecan Valley, and the surrounding communities, to educate children about the importance of good oral hygiene practices. Our team, including Dr. Joanna Ayala and Dr. Anna Stell, uses engaging activities and demonstrations to make learning fun and impactful.
- Free Dental Screenings: We believe every child deserves access to quality dental care. This month, we’re offering free dental screenings on select days at our clinic on SE Military Dr. These screenings are a great way for parents to ensure their children’s teeth are healthy and to learn more about preventing dental diseases.
- Special Discounts on Preventative Care: To further encourage good dental habits, we’re offering discounts on preventative care services such as fluoride treatments and dental sealants. These treatments are excellent for protecting teeth from decay and strengthening enamel.
Tips for Parents: Maintaining Children’s Dental Health at Home
- Regular Brushing and Flossing: Encourage your children to brush at least twice a day and floss regularly. This routine can significantly reduce the risk of decay and gum disease.
- Healthy Diet, Healthy Teeth: Limit sugary snacks and drinks, which can contribute to tooth decay. Instead, offer healthy alternatives like vegetables, nuts, and cheese that help to clean teeth naturally.
- Regular Dental Visits: Make sure your child sees a dentist regularly. Our pediatric dentists, Dr. Muniz and Dr. Walling, along with our orthodontist, Dr. Noor Mansouri, are experienced in providing gentle and effective care tailored to children of all ages.
