What Does It Mean to Have Good Oral Health?November 26, 2021 7:31 pm
In this blog post, we talk about what it means to have good oral health.
Strong & Clean Teeth
People with good oral health take care of their teeth. They brush at least twice a day for two minutes each time. This brushing removes plaque and prevents tartar – which is hardened plaque – from building up. Even the best brushers should still visit the dentist for professional cleanings at least twice a year. This keeps your teeth free from cavities and other problems.
Your tongue says a lot about your oral health and health in general! A healthy tongue is pink with small, painless nodules. If your tongue color or texture changes, it could be a sign that something is wrong. To keep your tongue clean, brush it when you’re brushing your teeth.
Painless Pink Gums
Healthy gums are pink and pain-free. When you floss or brush, they shouldn’t hurt or bleed. If you haven’t flossed in a while and notice blood when you start, keep flossing. As your gum health improves with regular flossing, the bleeding should stop. Red, tender, and swollen gums are inflamed and prone to bleeding. They have become irritated by bacteria and can result in infection and tooth loss if left untreated.
A Healthy Mouth Contributes to Good Overall Health
Your oral health is connected to the health of your entire body. For example, if you don’t take care of your mouth, it can lead to a higher risk for pneumonia, heart problems, and problems during pregnancy. Experts haven’t figured out exactly how or why oral health connects to overall health, but it’s clear that if you want to be healthier, taking care of your mouth matters.
